Thank you authors, for taking the time to send such kind words
Joan edited my book ’The Suicidal Therapist’. Her work is sterling. She is reliable, accessible and works very hard. It was a joy to trust her with my memoir that had taken me about ten years to write. All processes of writing a book can be treacherous, but this part of the journey was smooth and dare I say - enjoyable. Her attention to detail worked well with my perfectionism. No stones unturned. I highly recommend her skilled, experienced and calm approach to the job in hand.

As a first time author, Joan was there to support me every step of the way. She was invaluable in bringing my work to fruition. I couldn’t have possibly done it without her help, experience and knowledge of the literary world and I'm looking forward to working alongside Joan again on my next project.

Handing over my manuscript… my life’s work to be deconstructed by an editor was a daunting task for me. From the beginning though, Joan was sensitive, caring. She went beyond editor and became my friend. I’m not sure I could have ever worked with anyone else.

My book was edited in a very professional way and I was very happy with the result. Without this being done, I don’t think my book would have been as readable.

I feel so very fortunate to have had Joan in my corner helping me every step of the way , as a new author she took me by the hand and led me through the weaves and holes of being an author and shared in my delight of finally pressing the ‘publish’ button, and taking a very big sigh of relief when that time came. Publishing a book is so much more than just writing it, it’s therapy for the writer and the reader and thanks to Joan for all the guidance and assistance in doing so.

Joan was a great support when I submitted my manuscript, guiding me through the process and encouraging me. I had three offers to publish but Joan’s friendly style was just what I needed as a new author and she didn’t disappoint. Joan told me my manuscript ‘flowed and was well written' which was music to my ears. Her advice was spot on and I would be very happy to work with her again in the future.

As soon as I gave Joan my manuscript, it was evident that she was as committed to perfecting it as I was. She included me during the editing process, keeping me up to date with progress. Her care for my work continued after I thought we were done. Joan made sure any last minute changes were included and the finished article was completed with care and attention to detail.

Working with Joan as my editor for the last six books has been an absolute pleasure. Her keen eye for detail, insightful suggestions, and unwavering commitment to maintaining my voice has elevated my work time and time again. Joan’s ability to refine complex ideas while enhancing clarity is remarkable, and her patience and dedication are truly commendable. She not only improves the structure and flow of the text but also brings a fresh perspective to some of my ideas. I can't recommend Joan highly enough—she is an invaluable asset to any author.

I foolishly thought I didn't need a proof reader if I checked my own work thoroughly enough, but boy, was I mistaken! Joan's first review highlighted so many little errors that my untrained eye did not spot and I immediately knew it was a wise decision to use her. One doesn't tend to see these errors when reading and re-reading one's own work. It needs a second pair of eyes. Editing a manuscript is a back and forth process between author and editor. It is more than just error checking and it takes several iterations to reach the finish line. So it helps to have a friendly colleague like Joan whom you enjoy working with. The process was a very pleasant one and I struck up a good working relationship with Joan in no time. I enjoyed receiving her emails with new corrections and suggestions for improvement. She would always respond promptly and was a real professional. I would be extremely surprised were Joan not to raise the standard of your book considerably.

I suspect many new authors fail to realise that no book project can survive without a good editor - something I certainly hadn’t appreciated.
Joan Elliott is more than just an editor. She will read your manuscript, appreciate it, get inside your head and work out what it is you’re attempting to communicate to your readers. She’ll make it presentable, free of errors and find the inevitable typographical and grammatical mistakes that you’ll never spot, however carefully you revisit your work. Joan understands the current changes to English and book layout.
In short, you’ll not regret appointing Joan – it’ll elevate your book writing event from a rather lonely experience to feeling part of a team. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
